The best “healthy” hot chocolate

 

Could this be the best healthy hot chocolate ever?

This drink is a nutrient packed treat…

Raw organic cacao apparently has 40 times the antioxidants that blueberries do! It’s also a good source magnesium, calcium and iron and can even boost mood as it’s a source of tryptophan.

There is also some research that shows eating (or in this case drinking) dark chocolate or cacao may help promote gut health by selectively feeding beneficial bacteria, as opposed to harmful ones. It basically acts as a probiotic, thereby promoting a healthier gut microbiome.

Cinnamon can be helpful for balancing blood sugar, turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and nut butter will provide some protein and good fats to sustain you if you have this as a mid afternoon snack.

A lovely comforting drink that’s warming, pretty healthy and gives a little boost to your wellbeing…

 

1 tsp of cacao powder

cup of unsweetened plant based milk (cashew milk makes it nice and creamy)

half tsp on cinnamon

half tsp of turmeric

a dessert spoon of almond or cashew butter

good quality maple syrup or honey to sweeten

 

Mix the dry ingredients into a paste with a little of the milk.

Heat the rest of the milk in a pan and add to paste.

Stir and enjoy 🙂
